Tournaments

A tournament is a competition with dates and a prize pool. The top scores win, and each winner's prize is boosted by how much they support the game.

Where they live

A game's tournaments are at indie.fun/tournaments/your-game, and the game's bar shows a countdown beside the Tournaments link while one is live or about to start. A developer creates them in the Tournaments section of their game.

How a tournament is scored

A tournament ranks players on their best score while it runs, reported by the game. Everybody starts at zero, whatever they scored before.

Scores come from your game server

A tournament pays real money, so its scores are the ones your game's server reports with its App Secret: submitScore(playerId, score) from the server SDK, or POST /api/player/score with your App ID and App Secret. A browser cannot report a score at all. A tournament ranks on your game's score unless you pick a score type for it (Ranked on), in which case only scores of that type count. See Scores.

The prize

Place prizes
The pool, split over the winners in steps down from first place. With 3 winners and 600 tokens that is 300, 200 and 100.
The boost
Each winner's place prize is multiplied by up to ×1.5, from their total on the game's leaderboard: ×1 for somebody with no score there, ×1.5 for somebody at the top of everything. 2nd place at a ×1.4 boost wins 200 × 1.4 = 280.
What the boost leaves out
Token holding. A cash prize that grew with how much of a token somebody holds would make the token pay its holders, so holding counts on the leaderboard and for whitelist places, and never in a prize.
When it is fixed
At the end. The ranking and every boost are frozen the moment the tournament closes, so nothing done afterwards changes what anybody wins.

Running one, as a developer

Five fields: a name, when it starts, when it ends, the prize pool and how many winners. The form says what it can cost before you create it: between the pool and the pool at the full boost (×1.5), depending on how much your winners support the game.

Paying
Prizes are paid in your game’s own token from your payout treasury, so set up payouts in the Payments tab before offering one. A tournament with a pool of zero needs nothing.
Reviewing before you pay
Nothing is paid automatically. When a tournament ends you get a results table: disqualify anybody whose score you do not believe (the next player moves up), then press Pay winners.
Paying twice is impossible
Each prize is one payment per winner per tournament. Pressing Pay again pays only who has not been paid: a winner who had no wallet linked, or the rest after a day’s payout budget ran out.
Editing
Everything is editable until it starts. After that only the name, because players are competing for the prize and the dates the page states.
